Name: Hermione Jane Granger
Nicknames: Mione, Mi, Hermy, Mudblood, Know-it-All
Age: 16
Blood: Muggleborn
Birthday: 19 September 1979
House: Gryffindor
Any ability or special blood type you have aka vampire, veela, werewolf, etc.: None
Personality: Hermione has been both under and overestimated by her friends many times. What most people see her as is, to put it simply, a bookworm. As such, they either expect her to be the type that doesn't enjoy conversation or someone who excels in every aspect of life. And, truth be told, she tries to make the latter appear to be true. Always talking about what happened the last time she was at work or what she intends to happen the next time she goes, she can appear to be quite the workaholic. While she does adore making progress and earning respect from her fellow peers, what most people don't guess is that, at times, she can feel very overwhelmed by her workload. Being expected to be the best isn't easy on anybody, much less Hermione, who strives to make it look as though it is no work on her part. True, it's less work for her than it might be for someone else due to the fact that she is very smart, but it can still be a daunting task for her. Nevertheless, it's one that she meets with full-on Gryffindor nerve, not one to back down in the face of any kind of extra project or added hours, no matter how much it threatens to be too much for her.
Hermione has a few well-honed skills that she can always count on to do her justice in times of trouble. One of her specialties is a portable, waterproof fire that often serves a purpose in warming her up when she's alone and freezing on winter nights. Then there's her undeniably most powerful tool, logic. Hermione has a way of seeing problems in ways other people can't. In her mind, a problem or riddle is like a sort of maze - she can work out in her mind which direction she should go to take her to the answer, and ninety-nine percent of the time, she's very successful at working it out. She can even work out people's feelings, much of the time. She doesn't have to be told exactly what they're feeling and why, but putting two-and-two together for her is about as simple as taking notes during class. As such, she's often a liaison between her friends, namely Harry and Ron, and in her eagerness for everyone to get along, she neglects herself as a result.
Personal History: Hermione was born into a muggle family, and has been the only child her entire life. Both of her parents are dentists, and have been happily married for twenty-four years. They're very supportive of her career in the wizarding world, and, while a bit timid, rose spectacularly to the occasion when Hermione's letter came. Hermione herself swears that they would be Gryffindors if they had attended Hogwarts. She can't imagine living in a world devoid of magic for some twenty-something years, having her daughter receive an invitation to a magical academy, and accepting it all with a cheery smile and a few withdrawls from the bank account. They have been a definite stronghold in her life, and, although she still communicates with them regularly, she has grown apart from them quite a bit during her stay at Hogwarts. She no longer feels as if they will understand everything she's going through - they are, after all, in different words - but she relays her trials and schedule with them regularly, letting them know all that's going on at Hogwarts, but not neccessarly all that's going on with her.
Hermione entered her first year at Hogwarts both confidently and hesitantly, having read, re-read, and generally picked apart most of her school books. She'd memorized what she thought were important passages and incantations, and she was certain that she would at least know enough to be able to answer one question. On the other hand, she had no idea what was going to be expected of her once she arrived, and she was duly nervous when she got there. Sure enough, all of her hard studying didn't go for nothing. She was immediately recognized as one of the smartest students, and strived to keep that reputation. Surprisingly, it didn't take much. Her start of becoming friends with Ron and Harry was a rocky one, but it all turned out for the best. For the portion of her year that was spent without them, she utterly immersed herself in her studies, not trusting herself enough to attempt to make any kind of friends due to the fact that most didn't seem to like her, Ron and Harry included. After an escapade in the girls' bathrooms where the three of them successfully took out a troll, they became fast friends, much to her delight. She will never admit exactly how much weight it took off her shoulders to know that she had two friends that would always be loyal to her, but it's a feeling of ecstasy that she still feels every now and then when she truly thinks about it. The highlight of her year, of course, was at the end, during Harry's capture of the Sorceror's Stone. She can still replay every detail vividly in her mind, from leaving Harry in the room with the potions after she figured out the riddle (she still sometimes ponders at how easy it was), to trying desperately to revive Ron, and, at the same time, alert Dumbledore. It was both more panic and more excitement than she had ever known.
Her second and third year passed almost the same. Of course, there was a whole lot of studying involved, resulting in her still being at the top of her year. What she found took up most of her time were her adventures with Harry and Ron. While they did get into a few fights over the course of the years, one in her third year where they didn't speak for an extended period of time sticks out vividly in her mind. She still remembers exactly how isolated she felt apart from them, and it has become a definite fear of hers to be separated from them ever since. The rest of the time was spent plotting daring adventures and finding out wonderful secrets made all the more wonderful by the fact that they were never supposed to find them out. She looks back on the two years as some of the best the trio has experienced. It seemed that things were so much easier back then, that even the complications of what they did then were simple compared to many of the things they faced afterwards.
Her fourth year was the most trying that she had faced by far. She almost thought she would faint when Harry got accepted to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, but that wasn't even the beginning of it. When he and Ron were on unspeaking terms, she was positively torn. The loyalty that ran so rapidly through her veins was nearly pulling her apart. Of course, it was evident to her immediately what the root of the problem was, but as much as she wanted to take it upon herself to fix it, she decided to let them sort it out. True, she ended up helping Harry a bit, but the poor boy had so much on his plate that he deserved it. In the midst of all that happened that year, she found herself almost too excited to return to what she thought would be 'regular life'. Oh, how wrong she was.
Appearance:
Hobbies: Hermione is the type of person that reads during all her spare time, and believes that anything worth knowing can be found in books. Thus, she is extremely smart and the top in all her class. She is not only brilliant, she is very kind at heart, and also willing to help others. You can find her whispering helpful instructions to Neville Longbottom during potions, even though she has gotten into trouble for doing this several times. She can not stand to lie, unless of course it is for the greater good. Her morals are what make her so unique. She stands up for her morals and everything she believes in not matter the circumstances. She is also an extremely determined girl, if she thinks something is worth her precious reading time, she puts her heart and soul into it.
Likes: Reading, The Rain, & Studying Ancient regins
Dislikes: Slytherins, When people get obbessed with Quidditch, & people who pretended to be stupid
Role play Sample:
A pink tab meant Defense Against the Dark Arts, and a blue on Arithmancy? Yes, that was right, Hermione determined as she checked her Class/Color key. Biting her lip in concentration, Hermione pulled off several pink tabs, marking them on May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Now for the blue tabs. She pulled five blue tabs off, and placed them on the day just after the pink tabs, on May 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. One day each week would be dedicated to studying for the exams for two classes, and every Sunday would be dedicated to studying for all of them. While Hermione knew she needed to be studying for each exam often and a lot, she also knew that if she studied for only two a night, she would be able to go into much more depth, and cover the material thoroughly.
Now green would certainly have to be Herbology, to fit in with the theme of the class. Pulling off more green tabs, Hermione marked them just after the blue tabs, on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st. Now she would have to start doubling up on days. It was a wonder to Hermione that Harry and Ron hadn't started to follow her lead yet with preparing for their exams in such a manner. They never usually studied until the week before their exams. Such a thing was unheard of for Hermione. In fact, she was even deathly surprised that she hadn't started making her studying guide until just then. Four months in advance was suitable. Three months, though? How could she have ever let herself slack off in such a manner? If she missed something on the final that studying could have prevented, she would never forgive herself. Never. It was unheard of.
Even if those two only studied a week in advance to the exams, they somehow always managed to pass them, which was beyond Hermione as to how they did it. She figured she would never know how either, and she would never be willing to experiment and find out just how they did it. No way would she put her grades on the line just to find out how they managed to get by. That would be suicide for Hermione, but somehow even worse.
Perhaps she would make a studying guide for Harry and Ron once again, like she had done a couple years before. They hadn't liked it, and she was sure that they hadn't followed it by heart like Hermione did her study guide, but maybe this year would be different. Maybe they would actually try to make an attempt to get good grades. As far as Hermione was concerned, any exam was not only crucial, but it was preparation for their NEWT tests the next year. If Harry and Ron didn't learn good preparation skills by the time the NEWTS came, then Hermione would be prepared to attend their funerals.
Adding the last yellow tab (History of Magic) Hermione's study schedule for May was finished, and with a beaming smile, she admired her work. She flipped back to April, and another array of colors greeted her, a feeling of accomplishment swelling inside of Hermione. Now to finish for June. Every day in June would be spent studying for every class, for the exams were nearly upon them by then, and once she had gotten through all the in depth studying, frequent studying was in dire need. Once she had finished June as well, Hermione's urge to create schedules for Harry and Ron was increasing.
Glancing up the staircases, Hermione made sure that no one was paying much attention to those who went up them. Just about to stand to make a break toward the stairs, Hermione was joing by another, who prevented her from passing into the forbidden.
